AMPELITE – Commercial Roofing – Dualroof
Dualroof – Insulated skylight system
Ampelite Dualroof uses the fundamental principles of double-glazing to create a simple yet functional insulated sky lighting system. Overseas countries with colder climates use complicated double-glazed skylights to prevent heat loss, Ampelite Dualroof has specifically been designed for the New Zealand climate. With simplicity and ease of installation a high priority, the system provides natural daylight whilst also ensuring minimum heat loss.
The Dualroof system consists of a fibreglass top sheet and a Lexan 2 wall or 5 wall bottom sheet with a 20mm air gap between the two sheets. Depending on which Lexan sheet is utilized, the R-value of the sheets and air gaps are then added together to calculate the total R-value of the complete system.
MAIN BENEFITS
- Natural daylight
- Reduction of energy consumption
- Excellent R Value performance
- Compatible with most roofing profiles
- Easy to install
- Strong

DR-TW2: DR-TW2 uses a fibreglass top sheet and a Lexan Multiwall two-wall polycarbonate bottom sheet. DR-TW2 is designed to be easily installed with most commercial roofing profiles with the Lexan bottom sheet providing a smooth flat surface to the underside of the skylight which is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. A profiled fibreglass spacer strip is used at the purlin line to lift the top fibreglass sheet off the Lexan bottom sheet, creating an extra air gap between the two sheets, thus adding to and increasing the thermal performance of the DR-TW2 system.
DR-TW5: As with the DR-TW2 system, the DR-TW5 system uses a fibreglass top sheet; however, for increased thermal performance, the Lexan Multiwall two-wall polycarbonate bottom sheet is replaced by a Lexan Multiwall five-wall polycarbonate bottom sheet. The extra air cells in the Lexan five-wall sheet increase the R-value from 0.30 to 0.54.

INSTALLATION
Correct installation is important
Ampelite Dualroof shall be installed in accordance with Ampelite fixing instructions and with AS/NZS 1562.3:1996, Design and installation of sheet roof and wall cladding, Part 3: Plastic, the requirements of the NZ Building Code and the NZ Metal Roofing Manufacturers’ Association Code of Practice.
Please note these additional important requirements
- The Ampelite Dualroof system shall be installed using the fastening length applicable to the main cladding, together with a metal profile washer and EDPM seal. This combination gives a secure and weather-tight finish. The fixing screws should not be over-tightened to such an extent that the sheet buckles, allowing water penetration at the seal or sheet overlap.
- Fixing should be made at every crest at both ends of the sheet and at every second crest at intermediate purlins.
- Where the Ampelite Dualroof system is in contact with safety mesh, an Ampelite purlin protection strip must be installed over the safety mesh to avoid fracturing the underside of the sheet. Where end-lapping of the sheet is required, a minimum of 300mm overlap is essential. Ampelite recommends the use of 25mm Lap Seal Tape at the top and bottom edges of the purlin. This ensures the strips are concealed. For Decking profiles, two continuous beads of a clear non-hardening sealer (i.e. silicone), must be applied across the full width of the decking within the overlap.
- IMPORTANT: The Ampelite Dualroof system should be installed by pre-drilling holes to allow for expansion and contraction. The basic calculation is 0.75mm per lin./m, plus the shank diameter of the screw. Do not over-tighten screws. EXAMPLE: 10m sheet – 10 (m) x 0.75 (mm) + 4mm (fastener) = 11.5mm pre-drilled hole.
- CYCLONE ZONE INSTALLATION: Installation in cyclone-prone areas follows the recommendations and code for normal fixing, but further specific requirements must be met. Please contact your local Ampelite office for the latest information.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Handling, Storage, and Disposal
The Ampelite Dualroof system is non-trafficable. The sheeting should always be stored in a dry and fire-safe area and handled with care to avoid damage to the surface coating as warranties will not apply to sheeting that has been damaged in handling or has received mechanical damage as a result of foot traffic.
Accessories
Ampelite has a large range of accessories available to help make the installation of our Dualroof fast and professional. These accessories include our range of Ampelok self-drilling screws which oversize the fastener holes as they pass through the sheet, self-adhesive tapes and profiled foam sealing strips for vermin protection.
